Rationale

The rationale behind this project is to increase communication between Special Education and English Learner departments.  Many language characteristics that are seen within first language acquisition in a child with special needs can also be seen in second language learning.

The seminal article that spurred my Master’s project came from an issue of Impact, a newsletter published by the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration (UCEDD) & Research Training Center on Community Living, an issue on educating K-12 English learners with disabilities.
