Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH)

Depending on the severity and range of hearing loss, a child may well hear the vowels and low frequency sounds of language, but have difficulties hearing the higher frequency or voiceless consonants, such as /f, s, th, sh, p, t/.  It is the consonants however, that carry meaning in the English language.
